Two points. One the entire issue of scaling is a subject that both businesses and politicians need to understand. His visualization of the physical presence of a closed factory vs the closing of a software startup are very good images. The other note is the continued cluelessness of the financial world on how screwed we are on rare earths. In this podcast by Bloomberg done this past April, the noted commodities reporter Javier Blas says that the market for rare earths is tiny and we need not work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4LVJFeFVwQ

"Sellout: How Washington Gave Away America's Technological Soul, and One Man's Fight to Bring It Home" by Victoria Bruce, not "Victorian". Published in 2017, it details the story of Jim Kennedy, a businessman who discovered a rare-earth mine and then fought to restore America's rare-earth industry against China's global monopoly, which is crucial for high-tech industries and national defense.

Jim made a plan to restore America’s rare earth industry. His plan also allowed technology companies to manufacture rare earth dependent technologies in the United States again and develop safe, clean nuclear energy. A THORIUM Reserve is the heart of Jim's Plan

Re: the connection between e.v. and providing a scale market for the infrastructure needed to control the supply of rare earth enabled end products. China now dominates the global E.V. market where its access isn't prohibited by law.
