(CGNP) in our successful advocacy in 2022 to extend the operations of Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) near San Luis Obispo, California to 2030. CGNP will be working to extend DCPP's operations to 2045. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has already granted a DCPP license extension to 2045. We just need California legislation to ratify the NRC decision.
Though in principle I fully support the development of nuclear power, I hope the refurbishment delivers lower cost and more reliable electricity. If the project is undertaken with the wrong objectives and top level guidance, e.g. as a jobs creator, then we might as well have people digging holes in the ground.
